Intergovernmental Conference on the Global Compact for Migration
This Intergovernmental Conference is convened under the auspices of the General Assembly of the United Nations and held pursuant to the 'New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants' (19 September 2016) which decided to launch a process of intergovernmental negotiations leading to the adoption of a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration.
The purpose of the Conference is to formally adopt the Global Compact for Migration, as agreed by the Member States of the United Nations on the 13th of July, 2018.
The Conference is estimated to have between 5,000 to 6,000 participants.
Participation is open to:
- All UN Member States and all members of specialized agencies that have observer status with the UN General Assembly;
- Intergovernmental organizations and other entities having received a standing invitation to participate as observers in the work of the UN General Assembly, and organizations and bodies of the UN to participate as observers;
- All relevant stakeholders including civil society, the private sector, academic institutions, parliaments, diaspora communities and migrant organizations.
